Ten-year-old reported on suspicion of extremism

Parkfield Community School, in Birmingham's reported a 10-year-old Muslim student to the police on suspicion of extremism, after the boy complained about not having a prayer room.

It was during a residential trip when he came to the teacher's attention. It is alleged that he was also telling female Muslim pupils that they should cover their faces with a head scarf.

The boy was referred to the police by the primary school, under the government's Prevent Duty initiative. The government's Prevent Duty initiative guides teachers on detecting signs of extremism.
