8th February will be remembered for a long time in India, especially in Delhi. It was the day when the fake Kejriwal was ousted from his throne in Delhi. For a decade the people of Delhi played a very stupid game. They voted in this merchant of fake promises and total ineptitude, and they suffered the consequences of their foolishness. They finally woke up and on 8th February we learnt that not only did they eject Kejriwal, but they totally destroyed him in the process. And to add salt to his injury, he even lost his own seat. Imagine a leader of a party losing his own seat. The coughing maestro finally got found out and in this process the BJP have not just gained a majority, but they have elevated themselves in a position of real dominance.
I looked at the votes and guess what, there were 34 seats where the BJP won by such a huge margin that even if AAP and INC votes were added together, they would still have lost. This was a tsunami of monumental proportions. The Modi wave is real.
For those interested in the results and the margins, the table gives you food for thought.
For the BJP winning after 27 years of being in the Delhi wilderness is of course good news, however, with that comes responsibility and high expectations. BJP cannot afford to go slow on development. They cannot afford to go slow in getting rid of corrupt civil servants. They cannot go slow in addressing some of the low hanging fruits that will give them the highest mileage.
The BJP manifesto promised a long list of items, for me some of the most noteworthy are:
- Cleaning the Yamuna River and developing a riverfront.
- Resuming pensions for seniors.
- Free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level.
- Ensuring a 100% manual scavenging-free Delhi.
- Deploying e-buses to reduce pollution.
- Allocating ₹765,000 crore for highway development.
- Constructing new colleges.
- Constructing a Mahabharat Corridor.
- A zero-tolerance policy against misgovernance and corruption.
This is an incredible opportunity for the BJP to hit the road running. They have 3 years in which to make an impact and for there to be visible signs of real development. If they can do that, they will set a marker down for the next national election in 2029.
People may not necessarily agree with Trump, but one thing is for sure, Trump 2.0 has turned the USA upside down in his first 100 days. The only way you can break the hold of the ‘deep state’ in any nation is to uproot and destroy it from its very origin. The deep state is like a garden weed, if you allow even a bit to survive, you can bet it will raise its ugly head in due course.
In his forthcoming visit to the USA to meet President Trump, PM Modi needs to set the tone that India will no longer take a back seat and dance to anyone’s tune. If nations want the support of India, then those nations will need to prove their allegiance and loyalty to India first. Let Delhi be the catalyst that gives a boost to the BJP juggernaut of nation building.
