Two teachers, who are father and son, Mohammed Siddique (60), and Mohammed Waqar (23), were due to face trial at Birmingham Crown Court for slapping and beating a 10-year-old boy with a stick for not reciting the Koran properly, have pleaded guilty to a charge of cruelty to a child under the age of 16.

The crime took place between 1st May 2014 and 13th June 2014, at a mosque in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. It is said that Siddique and Waqar taught the boy, who is now 11 years old, in separate lessons.

Judge Mark Wall QC, adjourned sentence until 7th September 2015. He said, “The fact that I am granting you bail and the fact I am asking for reports should not be taken by you as an indication of what the likely sentence will be. The conduct of each of you was serious and the judge who passes sentence will have all options open to him or her.”
