A teenager convicted of raping a vulnerable middle-aged woman in an alleyway has been sentenced to eight years' detention.

Ibrahim Abdulle (19) denied the offence, claiming the victim agreed to have sex with him in exchange for cannabis.

A Leicester Crown Court jury rejected his account by finding him guilty with a 10-2 majority verdict.

The incident happened on October 8 last year, in an alley off Glebe Street in Highfields, Leicester.

Sentencing Abdulle, Recorder Adrian Reynolds told him: "You and a friend were wandering around near the train station when you came across this woman. Whether you'd had dealings with her in the past I don't know, but it must have been obvious she was vulnerable.

"Your friend struck a bargain with her whereby he paid her money for some sexual act. I can only assume you didn't have anything to pay her, and decided to take her by force."

Abdulle, was told his details would be on a sex offenders register for life.
