Pupil who died of 'allergic reaction' named

A nine-year-old schoolboy who died after suffering a suspected allergic reaction at his Birmingham school has been named as Mohammad Ismaeel Ashraf, who fell ill at Al Hijrah School last Friday.

The emergency services were called to the school at 2.30pm on Friday after he collapsed.

The boy, who was known as Ismaeel, was taken to Heartlands Hospital but could not be saved.

Police were investigating reports he suffered an allergic reaction.

The school said in a statement earlier this week: “Al-Hijrah School is in great shock after the sudden death of one its nine-year-old students.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held take place and Ismaeel’s family were being supported by specially-trained officers.
