A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of planning to join so-called Islamic State in Syria. He was arrested earlier at an address in Handsworth, Birmingham, after police received intelligence that he was preparing to travel to the Middle East.

Officers are continuing to search the property, which is not his home address.

The arrest was planned and there was no immediate threat to the public, West Midlands Police said.
