Factory worker, Ashwin Daudia, 51, is accused of strangling his former wife, Kiran Daudia, 46, and leaving her body in a suitcase by some bins. He denies murder.

The jury in the murder trial at Leicester Crown Court heard how Kiran was “always happy”, however, her relationship with the accused was not a pleasant one.

Ashwin and Kiran Daudia had an arranged marriage in 1988 in India and continued to live under the same roof but lead “separate lives” after their divorce in 2014.

Prosecutor, William Harbage told the jury, “After the divorce, Kiran joined a dating agency and had started to meet other men. That may also have been a source of tension or resentment for the defendant.”

Vivek and Shivam Daudia, sons of Ashwin and Kiran were close to their mother. The prosecutor continued, “You will hear that the relationship between the defendant and Kiran was not a happy one. Vivek and Shivam sided their mother and had relatively little to do with their father. Not surprisingly, in view of the divorce, Kiran wanted the defendant out of the house which was in their joint names. The defendant was refusing to go and appeared to be doing everything he could to avoid doing so.”

The trial continues.
