A young mum has died while trying to escape from blaze at her Birmingham home.

Saika Parveen, 24, was overcome by smoke and was found collapsed on the landing by firemen who could not resuscitate her. The fire was caused by a discarded cigarette.

According to thr Birmingham Mail, an inquest heard the former Tesco worker, who had a three-year-old son, was allegedly drinking and smoking with friends at her Bordesley Green home on November 18 last year. The guests left the property at around 5.30am.

In the afternoon when her father could not get hold of Parveen on the phone, he went over to the house and was greeted by thick smoke on opening the door.

Putting a scarf around his face, he had tried to look for Parveen, before retreating from the property and dialling 999.

The blaze had supposedly started in the lounge downstairs, which had been used as a store room, and had been smouldering for a considerable amount of time. Parveen had been asleep upstairs and and it appeared that after getting out of bed she had tried to get out of the house, but was overcome by smoke.

Area Coroner Emma Brown concluded that Parveen died as a result of an accident.
