A mother and her four children, who were feared to be travelling to Syria from London have been detained in Turkey.

Zahera Tariq (33), was reported missing from her home in Walthamstow, along with her three sons, aged 4, 11 and 12, as well as her nine-year-old daughter.

Richard Walton, Met's counter-terrorism command said, "We had very real concerns that she may have been planning to travel with her children to Syria and she has now been detained with the children in Turkey."

It is further alleged that Zahera Tariq, was to join the family of her sister, Aisha (30), who is already in Syria.

Her sister and brother-in-law are said to be linked to the radical preacher, Anjem Choudary.

Tariq's brother-in-law, Siddhartha Dhar, is said to be a former disciple and aide to Anjem Choudary.
