A new government campaign is to be launched to encourage people over 40 to get more sleep, as there are fears that their erratic lifestyle is proving detrimental for their health.

Several studies have suggested that a lack of sleep is linked with many problems, such as heart disease and diabetes. It was also suggested that the sleep-deprived were 12% more likely to die prematurely.

The Public Health England are planning to encourage people aged between 40 and 60 to spend more time in bed, as part of a campaign to improve the nations health.

According to the Sleep Council, people who sleep less than six hours a night (which is more than a third of the population) are 12% likely to die early, compared to those who sleep for six to eight hours a night.
