London has strengthened its position as a global hub for artificial intelligence after London Tech Week 2026 closed with £6 billion in new investment commitments from international and domestic technology firms.

The flagship event, held at Olympia and attended by more than 30,000 participants from over 130 countries, showcased major expansion plans from global AI leaders and highlighted London’s growing influence in the sector.

Among the largest pledges, US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices announced up to £2 billion over five years to advance AI research and infrastructure in the UK, including collaborations with the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. Cloud computing firm Nebius also committed around £1.7 billion to expand its British operations, including new Nvidia-powered computing systems and a larger research hub in London.

The UK government used the event to unveil its £1.1 billion Artificial Intelligence Hardware Plan, aimed at boosting domestic chip capability and strengthening computational independence. The strategy includes funding for chip procurement, design support, and a planned £750 million national supercomputer expected by 2030, alongside a £200 million programme to help small businesses adopt AI.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said the initiative would secure Britain’s long-term technological competitiveness. Further investment announcements are expected to generate around 8,000 skilled jobs, according to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Major AI companies including Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor and Legora also confirmed expansion plans in London, citing access to talent and research networks.

The government additionally launched new AI training initiatives targeting 400,000 pupils and introduced tools to support job seekers, reinforcing its push to embed AI across the economy.
