New Delhi: With UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed’s son Talha Saeed contesting elections in Pakistan, the Indian government slammed Islamabad for mainstreaming and normalisation of extremist elements, saying it would have implications for the region’s security. The government also officially confirmed that it sought Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s extradition to India.
“The mainstreaming of radical terrorist outfits in Pakistan has been a part of the state policy for a long time. Such developments have serious implications for the security of our region,” said an MEA spokesperson.
On the extradition request, the official recalled that Hafiz was wanted in numerous cases in India. “He is also a UN-proscribed terrorist. In this regard, we have conveyed a request, along with relevant supporting documents, to the government of Pakistan to extradite him to India to face trial in a particular case,’’ he said.
Talha, was designated as a terrorist by India last year. Talha has been actively involved in recruitment, fund collection, planning and execution of attacks by LeT in India and on Indian interests in Afghanistan.
