Washington: Nikki Haley, a former UN ambassador and Indian-American, said that she would run for president of the United States in 2024, putting her at odds with her former employer Donald Trump, who is also vying for the presidency. In a video that her campaign staff emailed to supporters, Nikki announced that she was running for president.

Nikki, a former South Carolina governor who served as US ambassador to the UN under Trump, will lay out her campaign ideas in a speech in Charleston, South Carolina. She became the first Republican to directly challenge Trump in a field that is anticipated to grow in the ensuing weeks and months.

Haley, 51, said in her video that it was time for a new generation of leaders to "rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride, and our purpose." She also made a folksy reference to her prior involvement in foreign policy. Russia and China are advancing. All of them believe they can intimidate or kick us. You should be aware of a fact about me: I don't tolerate bullies. And if you're wearing heels, it pains them more when you kick back, she added.

Vivek Ramaswamy too vying options

Indian-American Republican and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is planning to announce his 2024 presidential bid. Ramaswamy, 37, who is a millionaire and has been dubbed by the New Yorker as the “CEO of Anti-Woke Inc”, has embarked on test runs and fact-finding missions in Iowa, according to a media report.
