Kathmandu: Ten Indian nationals, including three women, have been arrested for allegedly acquiring Nepali citizenship cards illegally by producing fake documents, police said.
The Indian nationals, who are all from Bihar, were captured in various locations throughout Kathmandu by a squad from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravindra Regmi.
Of those arrested, seven were males, while three were females. The Kathmandu Valley Police Office revealed their identities at a press conference. According to Regmi, it was discovered that Indian nationals used forged documents to get Nepali citizenship certificates from the district administration offices in the Rupandehi, Bara, and Parsa districts on various dates.
Police said those arrested have lived in Nepal for a long time, some since as far back as 2006, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported. After a three-month investigation, the police made the arrests.
According to a newspaper report, those detained ran sweet stores in Nepal and were involved in the production of sweets. Nepali citizenship certificates, voter identity cards, Indian passports and Aadhar cards were also seized from those arrested, police said.
