Washington: Four prominent Indian-American lawmakers - Pramila Jayapal, Ami Bera, Raja Krishnamoorthi and Ro Khanna have been appointed members of three key House panels.
Congresswoman Jayapal has been named ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee’s panel on Immigration, making her the first immigrant to serve in a leadership role for the subcommittee.
Bera has been chosen to serve on a House committee that deals with issues relating to intelligence. The CIA, the NSA, and military intelligence programmes are all within the purview of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which is responsible for monitoring all national intelligence operations. Additionally, Bera sits on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
A newly formed House committee on China has appointed Krishnamoorthi as its ranking member. The committee will study many facets of Chinese behaviour and the threat it poses to the US and the rest of the globe. The House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the US and the Chinese Communist Party appointed Krishnamoorthi as its ranking member. Ro Khanna has also been appointed to this new committee, which was established in the 118th Congress by Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy with the express intent of looking into and formulating strategy to address the US' competition with the Chinese Communist Party in the areas of economics, technology, and security. Krishnamoorthi is also a senior member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
