Over six million people with disabilities in the UK have started receiving a £150 payment to assist with the cost of living. The government will distribute this payment to eligible households over a two-week period, from 20 June to 4 July. Beneficiaries will receive the payment automatically, without needing to take any action.

This payment follows a previous disability cost-of-living payment made in September. The aim of these payments is to provide financial support to individuals with disabilities, helping them meet their daily living expenses.

Cost-of-living payments were initially introduced as a means to assist families facing the increasing costs of gas and electricity. While these payments were not specifically designated for these bills, households had the flexibility to allocate the funds according to their needs.

The government has also extended cost-of-living payments to low-income households and pensioners in recent months. These initiatives aim to provide financial support to vulnerable groups facing economic challenges.

Furthermore, between October and March, all household energy bills were reduced by a minimum of £400. However, there are currently no plans to repeat this reduction in the upcoming winter season.

Households in the UK have been adversely affected by rising prices, with inflation reaching its highest levels in 40 years last year. The surge in food prices has been particularly notable, with staples like sugar, milk, and pasta experiencing significant increases.
