British-Pakistani filmmaker Aleem Khan and his mom beam at the BAFTA

On winning the BAFTA for Leading ActressJoanna Scanlan thanked the British-Pakistani writer-director and filmmaker Aleem Khan who directed After Love was present in the audience along with his mother Fauziya Khan. He studied Film at The University of Westminster and has directed several short films, among them Three Brothers (2014) which toured the international festival circuit before receiving a BAFTA nomination for Best British Short Film. Khan was nominated for Outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer and Best Director this year.
Meanwhile, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has unveiled ten emerging talents from across the Indian film, games and television industries that will participate in the ‘BAFTA Breakthrough India’ initiative supported by Netflix. The ten names were selected by an eminent jury consisting of industry experts including AR Rahman, Apurva Asrani, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak Shah and Shonali Bose.
