In a landmark case, an employment tribunal ruled Uber drivers have the right to minimum wage and holiday pay. The ruling is expected to have repercussions for the “gig economy”. Gig economy is defined as an environment in which temporary positions are common and organisations contract independent workers on a short-term basis.
The verdict comes after two drivers brought their case to the tribunal demanding workers rights and they not be regarded was self-employed contractors. Union leaders called the verdict a “monumental victory for the over 30,000 drivers in England and Wales.
