The man who died in the recent attack inside Pentonville prison is thought to have been murdered in a gang-related dispute. Jamal Mahmoud, 21, a member of the Get Money Gang died and two others were critically injured after two fellow inmates aged 34 and 26 were arrested in connection with the attack.
Mahmoud from Enfield, north London was convicted in July for six years and six months for hiding a fully loaded Scorpion submachine gun and possessing ammunition in his back garden. He was already serving a five and half year term for a separate robbery. He was an active member if the Get Money Gang which operated in the Enfield area.
The attack on Tuesday after left two other inmates aged 21 and 30 critically injured. They remain at an east London hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Souzan Mahmoud, sister of Jamal, said “I blame the prison more than the actual person that done it. They owed him a duty of care and they just neglected him.”
34 year old Basana Kimbembi, has been charged with his murder and will appear at court at a later date, police said. They also the 26 year old has been released from custody over the incident and returned to prison.
