The former Deputy Prime Minister’s wife revealed recently how her husband was forced to order Thai takeaway as she refused to cook for George Osborne, the now former Chancellor.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival as she unveiled her cookery book, Miriam González Durántez, wife of Nick Clegg said the reason for the takeaway was because “he doesn't cook” and added: “That's his problem, not mine.”

The Spanish-born lawyer and mother of three said she found it difficult to adjust to public life and the responsibilities of being a politician's wife. At the event, she revealed how cooking helped her beat stress : “It was probably more about trying to keep the family together. When you have someone in the family in public life at that level, there are strains in the family.”
