The new series of The Apprentice is back on our screens. Last week Lord Alan Sugar set the task to produce new jeans along with a matching advert and an interactive bus stand in the classic boys vs girls face off.
As the task ended both were equally so bad that neither team won. And we were just week 2 in the 12-week process. In a historic first neither team got the traditional post task treat as Lord Sugar told all the candidates to discuss among themselves before asking the project managers to decide the two people remaining in the boardroom. As all six remaining candidates were up for Lord Sugar’s “you’re fired” finger.
Week 2 saw Kartik Nagesan the proclaimed the show’s familiar catchlines “If I wanted to be like everyone else then I would have plucked my monobrow.” The 33-year old infuriated fellow contestants and the audience alike as he tried to get his way during the editing of the advert. Karthik wasn’t giving up without a fight, saying: “I want to see what I can do in five minutes,” and a few minutes later warned he was “overruling” project manager, Mukai to get his way.
Amazingly Kartik missed Lord Sugar’s finger as he promised to the lead the team in the next task. Accurately described by Lord Sugar’s adviser, Claude Littner, saying: “The problem with Karthik is that whilst he may have a lot to offer, his aggression in terms of trying to get his voice heard has turned the others against him. Consequently, the more he tries, the less they listen.”
According to one programme reviewer, The Apprentice isn't about management in the business sense but rather a massive ego management.
