Two brothers, Bhagat and Padam Singh, aged 28 and 24, took part in the violent robbery of a business unit in Staples Corner, Hackney. Detective Constable Chris Wall from the Barnet Police told the Kilburn Times: “This was a well planned and violent attack on three innocent people for no apparent reason. Thankfully, one of the victims has fully recovered from stab wound injuries to his liver. However, another of the victims awaits surgery to repair a severed nerve in his leg and hopefully will regain full use again of his limb.”
The brothers were part of a gang who tied up and gagged three office men, two of whom were later stabbed. One man was punched until he lost consciousness when he tried to escape. The assailants stole cash, a CCTV system and a television which were then loaded into a waiting van before they drove off. A car belonging to one of the victims was also stolen during the robbery which took place in 2012.
“The Singh brothers took steps to avoid being captured” continued Constable Wall, “but eventually it was possible to prove their involvement in this offence. I hope the sentences will give the victims some sense of justice.”
Bhagat and Padam Singh were given eighteen years in jail. Police are still searching for the other accomplices, after getting a lead from the man who hired the van for the Singhs.
