A Muslim mother was allegedly racially attacked as she went to collect her children from a school in South London. Police are investigating after they were told that a group of women had ripped off the Muslim mother's hijab.
It is said that there were three women who cornered the young mum because she wore a headscarf. They started “shouting and hurling abuse.”
The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous explained her ordeal. “They pulled my headscarf off and started punching and kicking me. One was dragging my head down while the others were hitting me. They were being so racist and using derogatory terms."
After the attack, she was left with whiplash and parts of hair missing. However, the ambulance was not called as she suffered no significant physical harm.
According to the police, the attack which took place in Croydon, near the private Islamic primary school Al-Khair was stopped only after another parent intervened. The police was called to the scene at about 3pm.
The police arrested two women, aged 18 and 35 on suspicion of assault and a racially aggravated public order offence. They are currently on bail and due to return at a later date.
Regarding this incident, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said, “We take any offence seriously. We have made two arrests in connection with our ongoing investigation."
