On 3rd June 2015, BBC reporter, Ahmen Khawaja mistakenly tweeted, saying Queen Elizabeth II was dead. This tweet baffled many people across the globe and it was picked up by many international news channels.

Apparently, the BBC were rehearsing for an obituary when the tweet was mistakenly sent. A BBC spokesperson said, “During a technical rehearsal for an obituary, tweets were mistakenly sent from the account of a BBC journalist… The tweets were swiftly deleted and we apologise for any offence.”

The tweets were quickly deleted afterwards, however, they still caused a stir globally, confusing people regarding the well-being of the Queen.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated, “I can confirm that the queen this morning attended her annual medical check-up at the King Edward VII’s Hospital in London. This was a routine, pre-scheduled appointment. The queen has now left hospital.”

The BBC reporter, Ahmen Khawaja is now facing disciplinary actions for the tweets.
