British-Indian sculptor, Anish Kapoor (61), has caused an uproar in France, as he has installed his art worked which he has called a “queen's vagina”, on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles. He has titled the work “Dirty Corner.”
The steel-and-rock abstract sculpture is 60 metres long and 10 metres high, and resembles a funnel in the form of an aperture.
Kapoor said that the sculpture was supposed to be brazenly sexual, as well as majestic. He also added, “the vagina of a queen who is taking power.”
The French media have expressed their displeasure at the level of provocation emitted by Anish Kapoor.
The website of radio station Europe 1 stated, "Anish Kapoor provokes a scandal,” while the conservative daily, Le Figaro saw the sculpture as an effort “to use Versailles as an object of contrast between two types of art.”
