Proposals to commemorate Enid Blyton with a 50p coin were blocked owing to the author's “racist, sexit and homophobic” views.

According to the Mail Online, members of The Royal Mint Advisory Committee have revealed that the The Famous Five author was not very well-regarded. The coin would have been released in December 2016 to commemorate 50 years of her death anniversary. But, the organisation said that they were concerned “over the backlash that may result from this”.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Mint said, “The point of the advisory committee is to ensure that themes commemorated on UK coins are varied, inclusive and represent the most significant events in our history.”

Richard Madeley, the presenter of Good Morning Britain was earlier criticised for branding the author as 'homophobhic', 'racist' and 'anti-feminist' following the Royal Mint Advisory Committee's decision.
