Wimbledon once again drew a strong Indian presence, with members of the community joining thousands of fans at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to witness world-class tennis at the Championships.
From lifelong tennis enthusiasts and families to business leaders, Indians were among those soaking up the atmosphere of the iconic Grand Slam. Their presence reflected the tournament's growing appeal among Indian audiences and even shared their experiences of attending one of the sport's most prestigious and celebrated events.
Speaking to Asian Voice, Roshni Mukherjee who is a banker and entrepreneur said,”Attending Wimbledon 2026 for the first time, especially on the opening day, was surreal. From the moment I arrived, there was an incredible buzz and sense of occasion. Everything reflected Wimbledon's iconic identity—from the signature purple and green colour theme across the venue to the beautifully maintained grounds and the timeless traditions. I also loved how everyone embraced the occasion through fashion. The elegant summer dresses, hats, linen suits and blazers made it feel like style and sport went hand in hand. As a designer, I was elated to observe the sartorial choices of both men and women. Though white was the dominant colour, people flaunted florals, polkas, pastels and lace dresses. The atmosphere was electric, yet respectful, with every point drawing cheers from an enthusiastic crowd.”
Further she added that, “Watching world-class tennis live while enjoying strawberries and cream made the day even more special. For me, Wimbledon is more than just a sporting event—it's an experience that blends British tradition, elegance and excitement. My first visit exceeded all expectations, and it's a memory I'll always cherish. I say" There is only one Wimbledon".
Another attendee at Wimbledon, Lavina Mehta MBE, personal trainer, bestselling author, speaker and wellness coach, told, “Wimbledon is, without question, my favourite sporting event of the year and the ultimate British summer day out. There is something so special about the atmosphere – the tradition, the immaculate grounds, the strawberries and cream, and of course, watching the world’s best tennis players compete on Centre Court. As a teenager, I queued for hours just to experience Wimbledon, so every time I attend now, I feel incredibly grateful. It also always brings back wonderful memories of one of the greatest honours of my life: being invited to the Royal Box five years ago after receiving my MBE for services to Health and Fitness during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a truly unforgettable moment.”
She added, “This year’s visit certainly didn’t disappoint. We were treated to some incredible tennis, including watching Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic progress, along with one of the most exciting and fiercely contested women’s matches I’ve ever seen. Wimbledon never fails to create lasting memories. As a fitness expert, I always encourage people to enjoy the day while also looking after their health. Spectating often means sitting for long periods, so I recommend doing simple “exercise snacks” – short bursts of movement, stretches or seated exercises between matches to keep your body feeling good. This is so important for our community especially with the prevalence of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.”
