Such events rarely happen

It's remarkable that having been voted out in the leadership election when Liz Truss and her team took over the government,  Rishi Sunak was written off and was not expected to be in front-line politics only to find that soon after, events unfolded for such an amazing comeback.

Such events rarely happen. This time Rishi Sunak had a decisive win and was duly installed as the first British Asian Prime Minister in the nation’s history.

When we consider these events from a spiritual point, Rishi was meant to become a PM when the time was right. It was fortuitous that he became our PM on the day of Diwali which we know brings new light over darkness and good over evil. This was also when Lord Ram took over as the King of Ayodhya. It was meant to happen only then. Otherwise, until that day both Boris Johnson and Penny Maurdant were continuing in the race.

My wife Rekha and I hosted Rishi at our home during the hustings in August. My daughter, Kavita, offered to tie a special Rakhi on his wrist. We had brought the very special rakhi from the Brahmakumaris mission. He warmly accepted this blessing. That was also the day of Krishna Janmashtami. The day before, he had been to Iskon mandir and performed Gau puja. I just heard that our new PM requested for the idol of Pujya Jalarambapa to be installed at 10 Downing Street. All this suggests that Rishi Sunak is deeply spiritual in his life and he respects Hindu values.

Liz Truss, although with the best of intentions for our country, failed with disastrous economic consequences which Rishi Sunak had warned her about. These events have actually helped clear the decks and remove any doubts about Rishi Sunak and his strategy.

Rishi Sunak is a highly educated person and has also held senior banking positions and understands the economy and finance very well. These are strong capabilities in these challenging economic times. He is doing this not for money but to make a difference in our country. Indeed the Indian media are full of references to the guidance from his father-in-law, billionaire, Narayana Murthy, who suggested that to make a difference in the world, one has to be in politics. Rishi mentioned this at home when Rekha asked him what made him join politics.

Rishi’s Hindu values will be a strong factor in his success. He has humility and human care predominant in his mind. He has ensured his cabinet is all-encompassing that brings unity.

Good Hindu values of focusing on good karma rather than the fruits of actions as well as spreading wealth to ensure the whole society is taken care of will make a huge difference.

Hinduism is about inclusiveness and respect for all faiths.

Hinduism is about focusing on good karma for humankind.

Hinduism is about caring for those in need.

Hinduism is about accepting good and bad by having a balanced mind.

All these values must already be embedded in the thinking of our new PM and it is these values that will make him strong and successful.
