One to One: Pamila Rodrigues, Senior Systems and Training Support Officer

Pamila Rodrigues, born to Cain D’cruz, a successful businessman and Mrs Nicklin D’cruz, a seamstress.  Pamila studied at the prestigious St. Xavier’s college in Mumbai & Carmel College in Goa majoring in English & Political Science. She came 1st in the Goa University for her project on the ‘Khazan Lands – Dying’ 

 

Pamila started her career as a Call Centre Associate and began climbing the corporate ladder making it to Team Manager role.  She took a career break for 2 years to have her daughter in 2009.   She re-started her career from scratch again in 2011 as a receptionist and climbed her way up again to Employment Engagement Office with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, manufactures of cars, trucks, tractors, mopeds and bikes in Mumbai, handling their Pan India uniform distribution for the 2 wheeler division.

 

Pamila moved to the UK in 2014 and once again had to being her Career from scratch, she is currently working with the London Borough of Hounslow as Senior  Systems  and Training Support Officer.   She lives in Hayes with her husband Keven and their three children. 

 

Questions: 

1)  Which place, or city or country do you most feel at home in? 

 

Goa – An ideal day in Goa for me will be having potato bhaji and sweet bun for breakfast, enjoying the breeze of the coconut palms in my balcony and cooking some fish curry rice for my family.

 

2) What are your proudest achievements? 

 

I was very proud of myself when I was promoted as Team Leader the Citi Group when I was just 24yrs old. To be able to run the team successfully with some of the team members double my age was quite an achievement for me.

 

3) What inspires you? 

 

Challenges inspire me – When challenged or under pressure that urge to overcome that obstacle brings out the best in me.

 

4) What has been biggest obstacle in your career? 

 

Well, being a mother of 3 young children and being a go getter personally can be quite a task professionally at times.

 

5) Who has been the biggest influence on your career to date? 

 

My husband Keven, without his constant support and belief in my abilities I don’t think I would have achieved so much.

 

6) What is the best aspect about your current role? 

 

The best aspect is that I can train and learn so much about the Adults & Children’s services within Hounslow. 

 

7) And the worst? 

 

Its very difficult to be emotionally detached from the cases we work with.

 

8) What are your long term goals? 

 

To be a Councillor to begin with and work with people.

 

9) If you were Prime Minister, what one aspect would you change? 

 

Too early to answer that one, I am like my younger son, still taking baby steps in that direction.

 

10) If you were marooned on a desert island, which historical figure would you like to spend your time with and why. 

 

Mahatma Gandhi – Needs no introduction but I’d like to meet the person/husband/father behind the Mahatma
