Dr K.C. Chakrabarty Dr K.C. Chakrabarty is a seasoned and accomplished banker with over three decades of experience in commercial banking. He served as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2009-2014. While at the Reserve Bank, He was responsible for the Supervision of Banks, Currency Management, Financial Stability, Customer Service, Rural Credit and Human Resource Management. He was also the Bank’s nominee on the Financial Stability Board. Dr. Chakrabarty is the former Chief Executive responsible for UK operations of the Bank of Baroda for 3 years before being elevated as Executive Director of Punjab National Bank in August 2004. Subsequently Dr. Chakrabarty assumed the office of CMD of Indian Bank in June 2005 and Punjab National Bank in June 2007. He has outstanding academic credentials. He secured second rank in his Bachelor’s Degree in Science, First rank in M.Sc Statistics and holds a Doctorate in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University. He currently works as a Consultant from London and serves as a Director on the Board of Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd.

1) What is your current position?Consultant.

Also serve as a Director on the Board of Indiabulls. 

2) What are your proudest achievements?

Born at a remote rural place where closest bus station was more than 50 KM away, could become the Chief Executive Officer of second largest Bank in the country and then the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank Of India, Central Bank of the country.

3) What inspires you?

Making meaningful contribution in the lives of poor people to raise their standard of living.

4) What has been the biggest obstacle in your career?

Straight and Hard Talk. 

5) Who has been the biggest influence on your career to date?

Late Shri K. Kannan, my boss and former CMD of Bank of Baroda 

6) What is the best aspect about your current role?

After working for 41 years for others I am working for myself. 

7) And the worst?

Not much challenge in the Job. 

8) What are your long term goals?

Add value to the society. 

9) If you were Prime Minister, what one aspect would you change?Subsidisation of the Rich by poor which is rampant globally 

10) If you were marooned on a desert island, which historical figure would you like to spend your time with and why?

Christopher Columbus, so that he can help and guide me how to get out from there and reach my home or a new inhabited place to live.
