kidnapping gang who tortured victims for hundreds of pounds jailed

A barbaric gang of East London men who tortured and beat victims with weapons for hundreds of pounds are now behind bars. Their first victim was in Stepney at around 6pm on September 21, 2017, when he met Progghnamoy Chowdhury, a man he knew. Chowdhury took him from Stepney to Dersingham Avenue, Forest Gate, where Mohammed Kodoris was lying in wait.

Over several hours he was beaten, assaulted and threatened by the men who then demanded his bank card so they could withdraw money from his bank account. More than £600 was taken from the 29-year-old victim and he was only allowed to leave once they had taken pictures of his ID documents as well as all his family members.

Sajon was sentenced to six years for blackmail, while Kodoris, 52, was given a 16 year prison sentence for two counts of false imprisonment, eight years for blackmail, and two years for ABH, to be served concurrently. Chowdhury, 32, was sentenced to 16 years for two counts of false imprisonment, eight years for blackmail, to be served concurrently and two years for ABH, to be served concurrently. Abdal, 45, was the only gang member not to plead guilty, but after the trial was convicted and sentenced to sentenced to 12 years for kidnap, 12 years for false imprisonment, nine years for blackmail and two years for ABH, to be served concurrently.
