Yougest Newham councillor becomes Pride of Baruch after recent election win

Four Newham councillors, Mariam Dawood, Salim Patel, Mars Patel and Firoza Nekiwala have not only won seats in the recent council elections but have also become the Pride of their home state Baruch in India.

Mariam Dawood has become the youngest councillor to be elected having won a majority vote out of the 60 councillors who were standing. Her father, Sayad Adam moved to London at the age of 14 from the village of Vedva in Bharuch.

Mariam became a Labour support at the tender age of 15 and at 18 became secretary of Newham council’s Labour party and graduated from a top university. She was also selected to take part at the United Nations Youth Leader conference.

Cllr Salim Patel was born in Mahathula distric before settling in London  whilst Cllr Mars Patel came from Umraj and Cllr Firoza Nekiwala originated in Karmad.
