Ever since Prince Harry's alleged love-affair with Meghan Markle was doing the rounds in the media, there seems to be a frenzy to get to know more about his sweetheart. But post their engagement, there seems to be a never-ending quest to know more about the American star who stole the Prince's heart at first glance. From her style to her aura, Meghan has become a hot favourite for the global fashionistas.
Meghan knows how to handle herself in the public eye. Being an actress by profession, she is very much aware of how to dress, how to speak and how to present herself in front of the public. Any other normal girl may have been frightened with the amount of attention and scrutiny she's been receiving, but Meghan has used her knowledge of being in the limelight to her advantage and not let the attention shake her up. She appears poise and natural to whomever comes in contact with her.
Approximately 13 months back, people tried to decode Meghan's cryptic Instagram post of two bananas “cuddling”. What could be considered as an innocent post created speculation over her relationship with Prince Harry. Her Instagram fans went totally crazy over the picture, which also had the caption of “sleep tight”, accompanied by two kisses.
While one may think that this relationship marks a revolution within the history of the royal family by becoming more “ethnically diverse”, however, the royal family has been a rich mix of races for more than 200 years. It is said that Prince Harry has a mixture of both Asian and African bloodlines from both sides of his family. It is also alleged that his mother, Princess Diana's great-great-great grandmother was at least half-Indian. Even the queen is said to have a lineage of mixed races, and so did her great-grandmother, Victoria. So to say that Meghan is “the first mixed-race royal” would not be correct.
Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III was most probably the first mixed-race royal. She developed the Kew Gardens and gave birth to 15 children, who spread the Ibero-African bloodline throughout the royal families of Europe.
Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was a German princess. She was a direct descendant of a black part of the Portuguese royal family through Margarita de Castro e Sousa.
As well as making her way into Prince Harry's heart, she seems to have become a part of the family as well, as she will be joining the royal family for Christmas at Sandringham. After their 16-month romance, Meghan will also be the first royal fiancé to open gifts with the Queen on Christmas Eve, before she officially becomes a member of the royal family.
The royal family traditionally get together on 24th December for tea with Queen Elizabeth II. The younger family members then complete the finishing touches to the Christmas tress in the white drawing room.
Amidst all the frenzy about the upcoming wedding and the speculation of what she will be wearing, sources revealing that the royal couple are actually planning to have a wedding cake made from bananas. “This will be the first royal wedding cake made from bananas.” Moving away from the traditional fruitcake, they are opting for this novel choice for a cake as Prince Harry loves “anything with banana really”. Former royal chef, Darren McGrady has previously spoken about making the Prince a caramel and banana cake on a daily basis until the death of Princess Diana.
As there has been great commotion regarding who Meghan Markle is and her background, undoubtedly research of her family tree was inevitable. According to a family tree, one of Meghan's ancestors was in fact beheaded on the orders of Henry VIII. It is also said that his wealth and land were confiscated. There's definitely more that meets the eyes and with the heritage that she has, Meghan is certainly no ordinary girl-next-door.
