This year, you can head to Trafalgar Square to enjoy the festival of Vaisakhi, a celebration of Sikh and Punjabi tradition, heritage and culture. There will be free light bites and Indian tea (Langar), demonstrations of martial arts (Gatka), entertainment and a display of Sikh art. It will be hosted by Tommy Sandhu, and you can enjoy some langer and tea and the following programme of activities on Trafalgar Square. The opening ceremony will be at 1 pm, where a 10-piece marching band from Asian British Music ('ABM') will perform the Sikh anthem 'Deh Shiva Bar Mohe Hai'. Langar food demo by Chef Manpreet Singh will take place at the following times: 1:20pm, 2pm, 2:40pm, 3:20pm, 4pm, 4:40pm, 5:20pm (timing subject to change at short notice). Talk/Parchaar by Basics of Sikhi taking place at the following times: 1:40pm, 2:20pm, 3pm, 3:40pm, 4:20pm, 5pm, 5:40pm (timing subject to change at short notice). Gatka performance timings are 2:25 pm, and 4:15 pm (timing subject to change at short notice). Kirtan performances from Qi-Rattan and Manika Kaur will be recorded especially for Vaisakhi 2022 as well as celebratory messages from Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP for Slough and Karenjeet Bains, the first Sikh woman to compete for Great Britain in powerlifting. From 5pm-6pm. A range of free and fun activities is provided by Kiddie Sangat for children to do including Mala making, Khanda colouring as well as creating your own Kirpan on a gatra to take home.
