The University of Wolverhampton has renamed a university building in honour of the late wife of its long-standing Chancellor, Lord Swraj Paul of Marylebone.
Lord Paul, renowned for founding a steel business named Caparo Group, has served as the university's chancellor for over 25 years.
Lady Aruna Swraj Paul, who was born in India and passed away suddenly at the age of 86 in 2022, has been honoured by her husband with the unveiling of the new name for the School of Architecture and Built Environment.
The building at the Springfield campus is now named the Lady Aruna Swraj Paul Building. Her husband, Lord Swraj Paul of Marylebone, officially announced the renaming ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Ebrahim Adia said Lord Paul had offered the university "tremendous support" and it was "exceptionally proud" to help keep his wife's memory alive through one of its most prestigious buildings.
The couple married within a week of meeting and had three children. They moved to England after their two-year-old daughter, Ambika, was diagnosed with leukaemia, seeking treatment there. Tragically, Ambika passed away at the age of four.
