The Labour candidate for Harrow East, Uma Kumaran visited Stanmore Temple on 31st March 2015, along with Shadow Education Secretary, Tristram Hunt.

Members and devotees at the temple expressed their concerns about the government's decision of removing Gujarati as a GCSE syllabus. The temple has been active in teaching Gujarati to pupils since 2006.

Uma Kumaran stated, “Language qualifications are an important way of helping Harrow’s multiethnic community preserve their culture and teach the next generation valuable language skills.”

She further added, “Not only does it help young people communicate with their grandparents back home, it’s a beneficial life skill for competing in a global job market.”
