Mohammed Abdul Kuddus, 39, from Blackburn, and Harun Rashid, 38, from Rossendale, appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court court and were charged with manslaughter of a 15-year-old girl Megan Lee, who died after suffering an allergic reaction to a takeaway meal.
Megan Lee had a nut allergy, and fell ill after eating a meal from the Royal Spice restaurant in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but sadly passed away two days later on New Year's Day. The post-mortem examination revealed that the teenager had died from acute asthma due to nut allergy.
Both accused confirmed their nationality as Bangladeshi in court. Mohammed Abdul Kuddus was also charged under the name of the company, RS Takeaways Ltd, with failing to discharge general health and safety duty to a person other than an employee and contravening or failing to comply with EU provisions concerning food safety and hygiene.
The two men were granted conditional bail, and the case has been moved to Burnley Crown Court where the two accused are due to appear on 7th February.
