It is said that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II drove herself to church, on the Long Walk on Windsor estate, on Sunday. She even veered onto the grass to avoid a family strolling through Windsor Great park.

The couple, Scarlett Vincent (23), and Toby Core (30), were laughing when they realised who had just driven past them.

Scarlett Vincent said, “We didn’t actually have time to get out of the way as we were in a world of our own so she had to swerve around us,’ Miss Vincent said. Toby was pushing the trike and I was pushing Teddy’s pram when I realised what had happened. I turned to him and just said 'Oh my god, it’s the Queen.' He was as shocked and surprised as I was. I pointed at the car and she just smiled at us and waved."

Her Majesty, who is a keen motorist, has been a driver and mechanic in the Women's Auxillary Territorial Service in World War II.

The Queen is the only person in the Uk to be permitted to drive without a licence. She is also the only person allowed to drive down Long Walk, apart from park rangers.
