A teenager stabbed to death in her flat on Christmas Day has been named as Parwin Quriashi.
The 19-year-old victim was found by police and paramedics shortly before 1.30pm in the home she and her partner were understood to have moved into just two weeks ago. She was reportedly discovered after neighbours spotted a six-year-old child ‘crying and distressed’ in the car park of the building.
Mohammad Qoraishi, 27, appeared in court charged with the murder of Ms Quriashi. Police said Ms Quriashi suffered ‘significant injuries’ and confirmed she had died at the scene on Tuesday.
Qoraishi was arrested on suspicion of murder, and after he was charged, appeared by video link before Medway Magistrates’ Court. Wearing a grey jumper, a bearded Qoraishi did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. Emergency services were called at 1.18pm on Christmas Day to a property in London Road, Kent Police previously said.
South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene and confirmed the teenager was dead. Police had previously confirmed that the suspect and victim were known to each other. Qoraishi, of Maidstone, was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on December 31.
Mrs Quriashi's former neighbour from when she lived in a flat in Castle Road, Allington, said: "She was a lovely girl, lovely looking too. She would speak to you every time she saw us. When they first came over here she and her brother were learning to read with easy learning books. They were on the stairs and took it in turns to read. You could not have had a nicer person. She was very intelligent. I don't want to believe this."
