A survey found that 69% of the Brexit voters are saying that the UK should instead decide on visas for NHS staff “based on what the NHS needs”. This poll by YouGov on behalf of a campaign group revealed that only 14% Britons back the present policy on visas for NHS staff, who are subject to the overall cap.
This survey was conducted after numerous complaints, of visa caps causing staffing issues, from nurses and doctors’ unions, medical royal colleges and NHS chiefs. Jeremy Hunt, the health secretary, said this month that he was likely to lobby Sajid Javid, the home secretary, for special visas for NHS and social care staff.
