Research has suggested that women who enjoy eating potatoes are at high risk of suffering from diabetes during pregnancy.

The study has found that women who eat two to four serving of potato a week are said to be 27% more likely to have diabetes during pregnancy, even when their weight is taken into account.

The 10-year study analysed 21,000 pregnancies; 854 were affected by gestational diabetes. The results were published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
