The Old Bailey heard that a former student from Challney High School for boys, touted as being a straight-A student had allegedly planned a suicide attack in the UK, after he became obsessed with “martyrdom” from online Isil propaganda.
Mubashir Jamil, 22, from Luton had allegedly told an undercover police officer who posed as an Islamic State of Iraq and the Level (Isil) recruiter, that he would wear the suicide vest and “press the button on the same day”, but would prefer joining the jihadi group in Syria.
Jamil denied preparing acts of terror, however, he has been sentenced to six-years imprisonment.
Judge Peter Rook QC revealed that he had considered whether to send Jamil to prison or to give him a hospital order as her suffers from a schizo-affective disorder. Jamil was handed a “hybrid order” by the judge which will allow him to be treated in a secure hospital until he is well enough to go to prison.
