Shahnaz and Razaq Akhtar, both from Slough, have had their outstanding contribution of a combined 34 years of foster care which has included looking after 23 children and supporting 22 families.
Mrs Akhtar, a carer with Slough Borough Council for 20 years said: “One of the bonuses of being a carer is I have been able to do something positive with my life whilst still at home and looking after my family.
“I didn’t envisage being in the position I am in today, being able to offer care to disabled children as a full time job, but here I am.”
Mr Akhtar is a short break foster carer with 14 years experience while continuing with his full-time job at Raztronics Services Limited.
He commented: ”We are really chuffed at the moment. Although we feel our work is appreciated by the council, it’s really good that our efforts have been recognised publicly.”
