According to a research conducted by the law firm, Wilsons, the gap between the number of men and women paid £100,000 has increased by nearly ¼ in five years.
The research found that over 625,000 men receive at least a six-figure salary in comparison to 155,000 women.
The report suggests that the pay gap has increased by 23% over the past five years, partly due to mothers taking career breaks to have children.
Stephen Oxley of Wilsons claims that financial incentives for splitting parental leave equally between mothers and fathers could close the gender pay “gulf”.
