Labour Party Leader Sir Keir Starmer reaffirmed his commitment to the British Hindu community in his election campaign visit to the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Kingsbury, north London.

The visit featured a warm Scottish Indian fusion-style welcome, and Sir Keir engaged with members of the British Indian community. As he seeks votes for the upcoming July 4 general election to potentially lead a Labour Party government, he also participated in prayers, aiming towards electoral success.

Emphasising his stance against anti-Hindu hate, Sir Keir underscored that "there is absolutely no place for Hinduphobia" in contemporary Britain.

In his address to the congregation, Sir Keir added: “A Labour government will work with you to support your work and stand behind your community. We will work for you, to make sure that in everything we do, our shared values of compassion, dignity and aspiration for every person in this country come together to build a better, brighter future for all.

"My Labour Party will always be committed to building a Britain where all faith communities are safe and respected.”

He also acknowledged several of the Labour Party’s British Hindu candidates participating in the upcoming election, affirming their commitment to supporting the community and addressing their issues.

Last year, during Diwali celebrations at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, also known as Neasden Temple, the Labour Leader expressed deep admiration for the "selfless sewa" (service) of Britain’s Hindu community.

"To British Indians, I want to express my admiration and respect for everything you contribute to our country. The UK would be significantly diminished without you," he had said at the time.

With the campaign now in its final days, both parties are intensifying their outreach efforts to various communities, aiming to sway undecided voters.
