British Women in Sarees is partnering with Uma Global to celebrate cultural diversity and heritage through music, dance, and the timeless elegance of the saree in the heart of New York City at Times Square, for the iconic Saree Goes Global event on May 4th.

On the heels of internationally acclaimed events by British Women in Sarees such as the Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day, the historic Saree Walkathon at Trafalgar Square in London, Venice Masquerade Festival, the Tulip Gardens of Holland, and Hot air balloons in Turkey, on May 4th they will come together to experience the vibrant pulse of Times Square as it beats to the rhythm of our Saree Walkathon—a spectacle reminiscent of an Olympic-style parade. Over 500 participants from at least nine different saree-wearing countries have already signed up to attend. This promises to be an unforgettable celebration of cultural diversity, community, and craftsmanship supporting artisans in rural India.

With this, British Women in Sarees is embarking on a remarkable journey to celebrate cultural diversity and heritage through the majestic symbol of the saree. On Saturday, 4th May, at noon, the vibrant pulse of Father Duffy Square in Times Square will beat to the rhythm of Saree Walkathon, a spectacle reminiscent of an Olympic-style parade.

The legacy of British Women in Sarees extends far and wide, marked by internationally acclaimed events such as the Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day and the historic Saree Walkathon at Trafalgar Square in London. These endeavours not only celebrate the saree but also serve as a beacon of hope for the handloom industry and artisans in rural India.

As they bring the Saree Goes Global movement to the iconic Times Square, the women anticipate the participation of representatives from nine saree-wearing nations, uniting through music, dance, and the timeless elegance of the saree.

Last year, 50 Gujarati ladies joined around 700 Indian women by wearing the traditional Bandhani Art and walking to the famous landmarks of London to Illustrate the importance of Gujarati heritage and traditions by bringing attention to Garbas and Dandia raas throughout the walkathon! Gujarat group Lead - Anjie Chhapia’s and the participants' ancestral links and early childhood days in cities of Gujarat, famous for making Bandhanis and weaving, recalled the intricate hard work the artisans put in to create this wonderful art on fabrics turned into beautiful sarees/odhanis and so much more.
