The SOAS South Asia Institute has invited applications for the Ambedkar–Kalaignar Visiting Fellowship for Social Justice and Federalism, a new programme that honours the transformative legacies of B R Ambedkar and M Karunanidhi.

The fellowship is designed to support research and professional work centred on dignity, inclusion and social reform, with a focus on social justice, democracy and federalism in India. While applications are welcome from across the country and beyond, a particular emphasis is placed on work relating to Tamil Nadu.

Preference will be given to applicants from Tamil Nadu and from marginalised communities, reflecting the fellowship’s aim of widening access and amplifying underrepresented voices. Applications are open to candidates from a wide range of academic disciplines and professional backgrounds, provided their work connects meaningfully with the fellowship’s core themes.

Hosted at the SOAS South Asia Institute in London, the fellowship offers a fully funded three-month residency. It covers travel and visa costs, term fees, and provides a stipend, allowing visiting fellows to focus entirely on research, writing and professional inquiry during their time at SOAS.
