At a Rotherham sex-grooming trial on Friday 18th December, it was revealed that a corrupt police officer allegedly had sex with young girls, as well as gave drugs to a man who was accused of targeting children for violent abuse.
The detective constable, who was named in court as Kenneth Dawes, is said to not have taken any action when an abused girl sought his help. He allegedly revealed her routine use and sale for sex by a group of men, who are of Pakistani-origin in South Yorkshire.
The same abused girl stated that she had told the staff at her children's home about the abuse she endured but they thought she was lying and making excuses for running away, even though she returned “in a bloodied state”.
The victim said that at the age of 11, she was befriended and raped by a man who later “passed her” to other men.
Prosecutor Michelle Colborne QC, had asked her how she knew Kenneth Dawes. She replied that he “used to come to houses where we were. He used to have sex with girls and he used to take drugs from people and pass them on to Ash [Arshid Hussain]”. Arshid Hussain would allegedly beat her when she refused to abide to sexual advances.
On trial, Arshid Hussain (40), Basharat Hussain (39), Qurban Ali (53), Majid Bostan (37), Sajid Ali Bostan (38), as well as two women, Karen McGregor (58), and Shelley Davies (40), are accused of 63 offences. The two women have been accused of befriending young girls and then forcing them to have sex with Asian men. The case is ongoing.
