Britain: A coalition of charities has said that the increase in the suicide rates among men should be treated as a national public health issue.
They said that men failed to seek help when they were faced with calamity, which has caused the rise in male suicide rates.
Official figures reveal that there has been a slight fall in the number of women committing suicide over the past ten years, whereas the rate has risen for men.
In 2013, figures confirmed by inquests showed that 6,233 people committed suicide, out of which nearly 8 out of 10 were men; a rise of 4% in a year.
The charities, which includes the Samaritans and led by the charity Calm, urged MPs to help in order to “break down the stigma that prevents too many men from seeking help”, and hold a debate on this issue on International Men’s Day (19th November).
