Ian Rank-Broadley, 65, created the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that has appeared on British coins since 1998. He has now been commissioned by the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry to make an official memorial statue of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales, as a “fitting and lasting tribute” of her life.

The princes have announced that a statue of their mother will be erected in the grounds of Kensington Palace, where she used to reside. The statue is expected to be unveiled by both princes in 2019.

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry released a joint statement in which they said, “We have been touched by the kind words and memories so many people have shared about our mother over these pat few months. It is clear the significance of her work is still felt by many in the UK and across the world, even 20 years after her death. Ian is an extremely gifted sculptor and we know that we will create a fitting and lasting tribute to our mother. We look forward to unveiling the statue, which we will allow all those who visit Kensington Palace to remember and celebrate her life and legacy.”

An another example of the British sculptor's work is Lord Rochester, 'His Whore and a Monkey', as well as the sculpture of dancer Josephine Baker.
